The Township of Livingston is located in western Essex County, New Jersey, approximately thirteen miles northwest of Newark and twenty-five miles northwest of Midtown Manhattan.  Formed from portions of Caldwell and Springfield townships, Livingston was incorporated on February 5, 1813.  Today, the township is home to nearly 30,000 residents who enjoy the community’s many amenities, as well as the beautiful seasonal climate that produces moderately warm summers, cold damp winters, and lovely mild weather during spring and fall.

Livingston boasts a myriad of cultural, historical, and recreational amenities!  The township maintains more than 470-acres of wooded parkland and open space, with features that include recreational and municipal sports facilities, swimming pools, playgrounds, an ice skating pond, and trails for hiking and biking.

The township is home to numerous artists practicing in various medias, as well as the Livingston Arts Association and Riker Hill Art Park, an artistic community that, together with Becker Park and Walter Kidde Dinosaur Park, forms the Riker Hill Complex.  Also based in Livingston are the Livingston Symphony Orchestra, Livingston Community Players, and Children’s Theatre of Livingston.  Historic sites of note include the Ward-Force House and Condit Family Cook House, listed jointly on the National Register of Historic places as the Old Force Homestead.

Located just off State Route 280, Livingston is served by the New Jersey Transit Authority and Livingston Primetime Shuttle, and is easily accessible by the Garden State Parkway, New Jersey Turnpike, and State Routes 80, 287, 10, 24/78, and 46.
